CHIP FIRM Intel will introduce its T2700 Core Duo T2700 at the end of June. The 2MB cache, 2.33GHz processor will cost $640 at launch.

But, as Intel prepares its "Merom" family for the third quarter, it will cut the prices of its existing Core Duos next Monday - we've never seen this type of pricing action previously.

Intel will introduce a ULV Core Duo on June 25th, clocking at 1.06GHz, with a 533MHz bus, and 2MB of cache. This is the U2500.

The unusual pricing activity paves the way for a whole raft of "Merom" 64-bit capable processors to be released in the third quarter which will gradually displace the existing Core Duo and Solo microprocessors. µ

Backup for Cheap Windows users

I've got a free Rsync batch file utility that allows you to backup all of Windows (even all those open files) using freely available utils.

It uses 2 free Microsoft utilities vshadow and dosdev and of course Rsync.

Now I can backup my C: drive across the Internet if need be!
