Operates at high temperatures
Tuesday, 22 August 2006, 15:20
A TEAM of scientists at the Tokyo Institute of Technology have created a chip laser that can transmit data between logic and memory.

According to the Nikkei Business Daily, the boffins' laser will work at 80 °C and above, a breakthrough from previous limitations.

The laser is made of layers of indium, gallium, phosphorous and arsenic built on an indium phosphorus substrate.

Their prototype is .1 micron thin. The Institute aims to commercialise it. µ
