Apple moves to tie Iphones, Pods to charger

Power shenanigans
Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 16:23
UNPOPULAR OUTFIT Apple has lodged a patent for a device charger that can't be transferred between devices.

The aim, it seems, is to deliver one charger per device - say Iphone or Ipod - so that chargers from other Ianythings won't work with your particular Iwotsit.

Apple thinks this is a "good thing" because it reckons devices that are stolen won't be much good to the tea-leaf.

Anyone with any sense - that is, anyone not desiring that Apple makes more wonga - will see this as a daft idea that is anti-consumer.

As the New Scientist points out, its a kind of DRM for chargers.

Of course, anyone with any sense will avoid such a device like the plague.

Here's a link to the patent application. ยต
