EU in vast conspiracy against US and Google, report

Er, you can't be serious, John

WE DO LIKE John Dvorak, but think he's perhaps paddling up the wrong canoe with his suggestion that the EU is behind a conspiracy to kill Google.

His argument, here, is that the Eurocrats have put up a consortium of 21 Belgian publishers so that at this side of the pond we can have our own search engine.

Why, he wants to know, would any publisher not want to be linked by Google News? The answer is pretty simple - there's a heck of a lot of publishers - and not just in Europe - who feel that Google is a wee bit too powerful and to some extent is undermining their own core advertising efforts.

John reckons the US government should complain to the WTO and dish the EU some of its own medicine. He claims this is an EU "shenanigan" and is really just harassment of an American business.

alt='hwus'The European Union is surely an Axis of Incompetence, rather an Axis of Evil. And if the EU could agree on anything at all, perhaps Dvorak's argument would have some merit. But as the different members of the EU bicker about anything, everything and nothing, all the time, we doubt they could breathe together on this one. µ
