Better optimisation caused RIM's Crackberries to crack

Unexpected outage left addicts nervy and twitchy

RESEARCH IN MOTION (RIM) said that it implemented a "non critical system routine" supposed to optimised system cache which caused an outage that left millions of Crackberry users without a reason to be socially inept by breaking off conversations and peering at their devices.

The system routine wouldn't ordinarily affect servers and the Blackberry infrastructure but even though it had been tested, it caused a nervous breakdown in the software and even backup routines failed to cut in.

"The failover process did not fully perform to RIM's expectations in this situation," the firm said. So your Blackberry did not fully perform to your own expectations if you were one of the addicts who found yourself cut off.

It's taken RIM a couple of days to explain the difficulties it had. µ
