Acer knocks Lenovo off number three PC OEM trolley

The rise of the Taiwanese guys, the end to the others
Tuesday, 5 June 2007, 15:42
MARKET RESEARCH firm iSupply said that Acer toppled the mighty Lenovo off its number one perch in the global PC market.

And, overall, it showed the best growth performance during the first calendar quarter of this year.

The research reckons that its shipments rose by 45.8 per cent to hit 4.2 million units, giving it a market share of 6.8 per cent, a lead of 9.4 per cent over Chinese firm Lenovo.

Despite Acer's rise, it has a very long way to go to threaten Dell's number two position.

The figures in the iSuppli table below represent units in thousands. The table also clearly shows that it's getting increasingly hard to be an "other" with the multinationals now owning not far off 50 per cent of the whole pie. ยต
