Apple Leopard "copied Vista"

ZDnet hackette's brave claim
Mon Jun 18 2007, 07:54
ZDNET hackette who sat through Steve Jobs' Nuremberg style rally release of Leopard has dared to come away and say that Apple had copied Vista in its latest release.

After Mary Jo Foley got back to the office and mulled over what she saw, she said that she could not get over the fact that 5,000 WWDC attendees were wetting themselves about technologies in Leopard that already existed in Windows Vista.

In fact, she claimed, Vista looked pretty darn up-to-date in comparison to Leopard.

She said that the Leopard Desktop was the spit of Vista's Aero and Sidebar. It comes with a new finder which have the same capabilities as the integrated “Instant Search” in Vista. Leopard's Coverflow viewing capability looked almost identical to Vista's Flip 3D.

Quick Look, which lets you see Live file previews, is just like the thumbnail preview capability available in Vista.

Leopard is the first 64-bit only version of a desktop client, but it makes sense to keep a few 32-bit versions around for a while, which was what Vista did.

Leopard's core animation reminded Foley of Microsoft Max photo-sharing application. Boot camp has been allowing punters to run Vista on their Macs, meaning that many of them are no longer running Apple software.

Foley said that Apple's Dashboard with widgets is just the Vista Sidebar with gadgets.

She adds that while Leopard's Time Machine automatic backup looks a lot cooler than Vista's built-in automatic backup it does more or less the same stuff. So nothing to see here move on please.

Of course Leopard is cheaper than Vista, but is a lot more expensive than Linux. More here. µ

wow.

i can't believe anyone would even say that Apple Leopard "copied Vista". Well, let's look at a few aspects, shall we?

- "It comes with a new finder which have the same capabilities as the integrated “Instant Search” in Vista". Well, isn't instant search strangely similar to tiger(introduced in 2005)'s spotlight?

-"Leopard's Coverflow viewing capability looked almost identical to Vista's Flip 3D." Hmm... Wasn't Coverflow introduced in iTunes 7, from 2006?

-"Foley said that Apple's Dashboard with widgets is just the Vista Sidebar with gadgets." Oh my god. This is the one that annoys me the most. Apple's dashboard and widgets were introduce with TIGER, not leopard, in 2005. And seriously, can you actually think that widgets copy gadgets? because last time I checked, "gadgets were introduced with vista in 2007, TWO YEARS after tiger's "widgets"

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
