Nokia says its phone did not explode

Pants on Fire

US FIRE investigators have cleared a faulty Nokia phone from being responsible for a sleeping man catching fire.

Luis Picaso, 59, is in critical condition at the burn centre at the University of California-Davis Medical Centre. Firefighters say that the fire started from the man's trouser pocket which only contained a Nokia 2125i phone. Initially the fire people would not tell hacks what the brand of phone was, however one of them eventually squealed.

Fearing a similar case to the Sony exploding batteries, Nokia flew out a team of engineers to look at the wreckage of the phone.

Under fire department supervision, Nokia's engineers checked the phone's wiring, tested it for short circuits, inserted the existing battery and hit the power button and it turned on.

Fire investigators said that the phone didn't short out, overheat and still works even though it's burned.
