* UPDATE Unfortunately the server and so the first link below is downed now.

** BUT NOW it's up again.

OUR FRIENDS informed us that some leaky boat from Taiwan decided to show off the AMD Sempron CPU that will arrive on the 17th of August.

The site has full scale benchmarks and you can clearly see from the pictures that they had this component in their hands.

This CPU is actually the 754 Pin version of Athlon 64 with 256KB of cache - that will reach the market just in time for the back to school period, and obviously it will mean cheaper Athlon 64 marchitecture for the first time.

The Sempr0n was clocked at 1800 MHz and was still hiding behind the 3100+ marketing stamp, and in 3dmark03 was not that much slower than an Athlon 64 2800+ CPU clocked at the same 1800MHz and not even lagging big time behind the 3000+ clocked at 2GHz.

The link with all the pictures is here and you can find some more details including full test machine specification here.

You can see that in most of the tests, Sempron is just a tad slower then similarly clocked Athlon 64s which will make it a very good CPU to buy if priced correctly. It's only six weeks away. µ
