Computer to mobile phone texting

PORTAL YAHOO is upgrading its free e-mail service so that users can send text messages from computers to mobile phones today.

The service improvements are being touted as the biggest shake up of the service in ten years. But, as the Sydney Morning Herald points out, since the headline feature of computer based texting depends on cooperation of mobile phone service providers its limited to India, Canada, the Philippines and the United States.

It is supposed to go online sometime today. When we checked this morning it had not gone online yet.
