CHINA HAS BANNED the opening of any more Interweb cafes this year.

According to the Xinhua News Agency a communique issued by 14 government departments, including the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Information Industry, orders that "in 2007, local governments must not sanction the opening of new Internet bars."

There are 113,000 Internet cafes in China and most of these are set up for online gaming.

But the government is getting a bit concerned that people are spending too much time in the smoke filled cafes and are not getting out enough. It thinks that by limiting the growth of cafés, more people will go out in the sunshine and experience real life.
