French Connection told to stop F***ing around

THREADS SHOP the French Connection has had its knuckles rapped by the Ogre of Ogres, the Commissariat of Advertising Practice, for grossly abusing four letters of the English alphabet.

In a special ruling the ASA said that readers think that F*** is so similar to a well known word for sexual intercourse that people may take offence, because of it.

The Commissariat of Advertising Practice, which is apparently the "industry arm" of a self regulatory advertising industry, lit out against FC.

Said Roger Wisbey, the secretary of the Commissariat: "French Connection has been warned against using its trademark in a way that many find offensive. The poster pre-vet procedure was introduced for advertisers who have complaints upheld against their posters on the grounds of taste, and decency or social responsibility. The latest ruling shows that the advertisers still need some guidance in this area". µ
