Apple security bitten

41 is the magic number
Wednesday, 19 December 2007, 13:56

WITH THE INCREASING popularity of Apple hardware, worries that hackers may turn to focus more attention on the Mac platform have so far turned out to be unfounded, but that hasn't stopped Apple stepping up to a Microsoft-esque schedule of regular security updates.

The ninth update of 2007, made available for download yesterday, fixes a whopping 41 holes in OSX, both 10.4 and the latest Leopard update, 10.5.

The list of patches includes Address Book, Safari, RSS, iChat, Core, Mail, Quick Look and even a security flaw in the Software Update function designed to download new security patches. Wicked.

Apple also patched Windows Safari to fix some of the same holes. If you don't fancy the idea of third-party "arbitary code execution or unexpected application termination", then you might want to have a poke at this. ยต

Absolutely untrue

Everybody knows that the only true and real answer and solution to anything in the universe ist 42.
If Apple would have been really as cool as the fanbois say, they would have known and acted arccordingly.
But since I am not a fanboy...
Hell...they only found 41 bugs they thought worth patching in their "pimp up my BSD (c)89" Leopard ?

Bitten?

Doesn't "bitten" imply some kind of damage? Has anyone on a mac ever lost any data from malware? Ever? I think Apple itself has been the major cause of non-self inflicted data loss on macs (10.4.0 firewire drive fiasco). Social engineering (Phishing) probably comes in a close second. But are there any active viruses or trojans or worms (not proof-of-concept malware) that are causing damage on the mac right now? No.

Oh my God !

Apple had 41 bugs to patch ?
Didn't His Jobsness declare that that OS X was holy and without any fault ?
Is this the end of the world ?

It must be. Only a handful of Appleaddicts out to bash this article. Armageddon must be upon us.

IS there a doctor in the house?

I guess an Apple for your day really doesn't keep the bugs away :(
