MAC HEADS are in a state of existential angst now that the world plus dog has an iPod or an iPhone, according to the Washington Post.
The Post visited an Apple Store and discovered that the feeling that you were somehow 'thought different' because you bought Apple gear has faded.
The Post said that the "demi-privacy", "the clubby feeling" of Apple stores has gone and the place is too damn popular with ordinary people.
The hack, who apparently loves Apple and all who sail in her, bemoans the fact that once upon a time only losers used to scuttle around the shop.
They felt a sense of security that despite the fact that they lived in their mother's basement, and couldn't get a girlfriend, at least they had a re-assuringly expensive Jobs' Mob approved bit of gear and that made them " special" just like their mum assured them they were really.
Damn those TV commercials. The arrogant Mac guy has 'friends', well at least people who wander into his universe and play with his sacred toys.
There is still an element of the gross fantasy of the Apple fanboy out there, but it is being swamped by people who just buy a product and chuck it when it is no longer fashionable. There are even people who dare to complain when their Apple product does not work.
The Apple fanboy who penned this piece of toilet for the Post, said, without a shred of irony, that "Apple shoppers are more than people, more than customers. They are seekers".
Ordinary people in Apple stores are to that particular writer, like money changers in the temple.
Like most Apple fanboys however he fails to notice that the store has people complaining about their toys. That people are returning to the store with the same faulty piece of gear.
While he complains that the 'drab PC World' is still in the real world, there is a lack of spiritual satisfaction he gets from visiting his Apple shrine. The smug satisfaction of 'thinking different' like the rest of the fanboys has disappeared.
Apple has become an ordinary electronic company, and Apple geeks are still alone in their mum's basement without a girlfriend.
More here.
Since when did anyone who regularly shops at PC World have a girlfriend?
brings warmth to my heart like the inquirer.

At least, no webpage...
What is the purpose of this article? As someone who uses Windows, Apple, And Linux PC's/products without a "fanatical" allegiance to anyone or any company, I read this article and wonder "what's the point?" Obviously the author needed to spew hatred toward Apple, Inc. and its user base to make him/itself feel better somehow.
I think the article writer, not users of Apple products, is the one with worrisome issues.
Just tape a picture of Steve Job's face to a dartboard and get your release that way. Otherwise, you'll just continue to reveal that you're just a few steps shy of any creditable journalism. Or buy a Bill Gates plushie to sleep with.
What a hatchet job!
This article is laced with fear of Apple.
God, can a manufacturer want more than this:
"A woman glumly sits on a stool, waiting for genius help. It's her MacBook, she sighs. It keeps crashing. You have to sign up for an appointment a day or two in advance now, or more. She's been here twice with the same issue. She still loves Apple. She loves the machine. She loves the feeling. But she dreads coming here again."

I like PCs, but hell, they are just a tool. Maybe next time I will look at a Mac, but only if it does not require the loss (of whats left of) my mind.
The wording of this article is just hilarious, keep it up.
Hey, no fair, I have a girlfriend :-)
All hail the mighty and powerful Steve Jobs.
Kneel in awe and wonderment.

he-he, Actually as a Windows user from way back when 3.11 for workgroups came out. I must confess I love OS X. If that makes me a fanboy, then so be it.

Have a great day,
Regulas
I must say that this is perhaps the best story I have read on this site, and thats saying a lot.

As a former mac developer (as well as pc, amiga, linux, unix, Apple II, c64, vic20!) I know there is a special place in my heart for the mac faithful.

This article gives me strength.

ps. Did I say my heart? I meant hell.
Dead on. As someone who makes a living on the Mac platform, I have to say that I like OS X but hate the cult mentality that surrounds it. Nice article, I hope this will enable more people to see the brainwashed Mac cult for what it is.
LoL, I've been laughing about the whole Apple motto for the longest time...

They should change it from "Think differentl" to "Get in line and moo..."
Personally, I use and appreciate both Mac and Windows platforms, I've always held that arguing over which is best is like arguing the superiority of a wrench over that of a hammer.

A while back, during school, I worked for a few months at an Apple retail store, and I can saftely say that there is a lot of truth to the pseudo-spiritual mindset held by many Apple fans.

While I was working there, no less than 3 of my coworkers got the apple logo tattooed somewhere on their body.

There's something truly wrong with the world when people's lives are so devoid of spirituality that they feel the need to seek it out in a consumer electronics corporation. Even Ray Bradbury or George Orwell couldn't have seen that one coming... Oh wait, they kind of did.
I still think that people who buy Apple for the purpose of being "unique" or to "think different" are "unique" and "different"...

In my book they are very "special" people with special needs.

It takes a very special person to believe that it's not the work, or the results, but it's the brand of tool(s) you use which makes you "different" or "better".

We all remember Michelangelo for the brand of brush he used and who he bought his paint from. To believe this you need a life-time pass on the short bus. Special indeed!
really hillarious.....enjoyed the article a lot.....
What's the purpose of this article? Well if you check the author of pretty much any Apple article on this site, you'll find that they're almost always one and the same. Ol' Nicky seems to be in charge of writing nonsense Mac for the purposes of spreading the usual brand of Inquirer FUD... only difference unlike in the case of Microsoft where it's easy to go after their many failures in Vista, the best he can do is throw stones at Apple for the AppleTV - a product accessory. Next scoop: Sales of Apple Wifi Router dismal.

Personal vendetta, attempt to gain readers, or his personal urning to be the next John C Dvorak, you decide?
Apple fanboys and fangirls are the sluts and whores of the pc world... Only our hard drives are clean and uninfected.
aahhhrrr who wants to stroke my space monkey?

Since when did anyone who regularly shops at PC world have money?
the prices for stuff at PC world are extortionate for anything other than the occasional purchase.
Apple is just another brand now...live with it.
The woman in luis's quote should have bought an Asus laptop - made by the same odm and with much better user support.
Apple trolls have invaded the article!
Apple boys: There are plenty of glossy magazines with pictures of shiny less-than-great stuff. Buy those. Leave us be. We mean no harm. Everyone enjoy making fun of a fool from time to time.
I just read the Post article, it's like looking into the mind of a serial killer or a jihadist.

What a freak. What a genuinely, scary freak. Next thing we're going to have Apple zealots crying Apple slogans releasing cannisters of sarin gas in Apple stores 'cleansing the vile impuriters!' from their sacred temples or some crap.

All I can say about the author is "get away from me freak". And to think, I thought the Apple community had toned down a bit and was finally safe these days.

Clearly not.
