UK handset comparison price site appears

Either it's new or six years old
Friday, 11 January 2008, 13:27

IT WAS inevitable, really. With price comparison sites springing up everywhere, Tech Enterprises says it has just launched such a service for mobile phone potential purchasers in the UK called Phones Limited.

The press blurb claims that the site is working with over 20 online retailers, dealerships and UK network and compares data feeds from companies such as The Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone.

The site itself, however, claims that since 2002 it has operated as "an independent comparison site for mobile phone deals" and "currently deals with up to 30 online mobile phone shops". Hmm. Not 20, then?

What the company appears to have done is decided that independent trading on the High Street is far too expensive a proposition and that the online model suits it better.

The online based business relies on either clicks or sales leads for remuneration. The next move, apparently, is to set up a call centre to sell the service backed by a national advertising campaign.

Does it work? Well, in terms of making everything easy to find, then – yes. You can search by virtually every category imaginable: - by handset manufacturer; by network; by special offer (including cash back); and by phone colours (including pink).

There are limitations obviously. Try to find the best deal on an Iphone and the site simply points you at the Carphone Warephone. That wasn't too difficult to guess, was it? µ

The website is available here. µ

Handy as a guide...

But you can always get a better deal with a couple of minutes of chat.

Especially if you're talking to your current provider and you utter the magic words "Can I have my PAC please".

Oh, unless you want an iPhone, but then you were beyond helping years ago!

...not the first.

uSwitch has been running a site for some time (it's actually got the ability to filter as well...). I'm sure there are plenty of others out there.

Of course, the crucial details are always the quality of the data and how many suppliers they've got signed up... uSwitch's site doesn't even know what a Vario 3 is...

Interesting

I look forward to seeing how this one pans out, I've not seen a mobile phone affiliate yet take their business offline. Also interesting is that the advertising in national press statement means that they will be advertising alongside the very retailers they are partners with.

They Listened?

I was just having a look for a new phone and it looks like they may have been listening to the above comments!
They have added what they call a 'deal finder' to the site, or filter as mentioned above - the power of comment rules!
