Biggish Blue buys ISS

Security in its old age

IBM has written a $1.3 billion cheque to buy the security outfit ISS.

The big idea is that IBM will have access to shedloads of security gear including the Proventia intrusion prevention system.

In a statement to whoever was listening, Biggish Blue said that the acquisition of ISS gives IBM's security services business an "industry-leading automated security platform" to flog.

In fact, ISS has not been doing very well lately since its partner McAfee left it high and dry and started to compete against it. While many thought it was ripe for takeover few would have suspected IBM would have been the buyer.
