Internet advert outfit grilled over privacy

Served in a white wine sauce
Wednesday, 9 July 2008, 11:23

BIGWIGS FROM NEBUAD are to be grilled by a US Senate committee over their handling of customer data.

NebuAd works with ISPs to track the online behaviour of their customers and then serve up targeted banner ads.

Already the outfit has been labeled by the Centre for Democracy and Technology, a civil liberties group, as similar to an early generation "adware" company. It is no surprise that several of its executives were once employed by Gator. The only difference with NebuAd is that it works with the ISPs instead of the users.

Robert Topolski, a technology consultant to Public Knowledge and Free Press, said that it was the same as AT&T listening to your phone calls all day in order to figure out what to sell you in the middle of dinner.

Although no major internet service providers are known to have partnered with NebuAd so far, a number of smaller ones have worked with the company. ยต

EVIL

This sounds remarkably similar to a system that UK ISPs want to bring in.

What utter fools, commenting as if Gov't were there to protect our rights...

They need to know how they can use NebuAd's technology to implement another layer of Surveillance & Propaganda^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h Informational Massaging For Conformal Security's Sake, aren't you intelligent enough to understand that?
