Sapphire shows off its X1600 PRO HDMI card

Computex 2006 Suffers Silicon shortage
Thursday, 8 June 2006, 09:52
FOR THE second time we had a chance to see the Sapphire HDMI based X1600 card. The card is ready but the Sapphire says it just cannot make enough of them. The Japanese market is crazy about them, apparently, and we learned that Sapphire is the first ATI partner that managed to get all the certificates necessary to be fully HDMI/HDCP compliant.

Manufacturers of HDMI cards claim there is a huge shortage of Silicon Image chips at the moment and this is what keeps the cards from the real massive production. So as yet, here is still no solid date when you should be able to see these cards out in etail, as the most of them are pre-ordered even before production.

We learned that this is one of the hottest things at the moment and everyone wants to get their hand o on these cards.

Sapphire's X1600 PRO is a low-profile card with a small fan and will fit in media centre machines. We would like to see those cards fanless but at this point we can not object much, we just want to see them in the wild.

The driver is ready as we already tried X1600 HDMI card and that one was working just fine with a HDMI set. ยต
