Speedstep nightmare returns to haunt Dell

Aristotle, it's throttle gestoppel

LAST YEAR we wrote a series of stories about problems with Dell laptops and Speedsteps.

We thought maybe the guys and gals at Dell would just go away and fix the problem and everything would be hunky dory.

That was such misplaced idealism in the concept of customer service, it has transpired.

People are still having problems with SpeedStep and Dell machines, as you can read on this support forum thread at CastleMikey.

While Intel says that running a CPU at 2.2GHz on a Dell I8200 is entirely possible, and the CPU throttling can be disabled under Windows XP, nevertheless some poor bloody users can't clock beyond 1.2GHz on battery power.

One reader said he is waiting for Dell engineers to return eight calls he's placed over the last three weeks. ยต
