O2's Short peers into MWC crystal ball

Apparently, his sunglasses will be showing a handset video
Fri Feb 08 2008, 12:04

IT'S THAT time again, and O2's technical guru, Mike Short, is indicating what to look for at next week's MWC, Barcelona. Video eyeware is the one to watch out for, apparently.

Buried amongst the usual predictions about mobile advertising and the continuing emergence of NFC/RF tagging and barcodes is a very interesting comment about handset screens and eyeware.

One of the ways of overcoming the limitations of a handset's screen size is the 'pico projector'.

Beach Shorts says that suppliers such as Plastic Logic, Polymer Vision, Vuzix, Microvision, and Myvu should all have interesting products on display. No pun intended.

Oh-Dos' Shorts also looks forward to the day when mobile phone owners will be wearing video-enabled sunglasses on the beach, "to watch the latest episode of Lost, whilst still getting a tan and protecting your eyes from the sun."

He claims that when Bluetooth was first announced, it was met with considerable scepticism – so video eyeglasses stand something of a chance.

Now who's going to sit on a beach and test them? The INQ is quite prepared to volunteer. µ
