Apple helps the old LP spin on

The album rocks and is here to stay

APPLE IS TO make it cheaper for those of you who liked the single so much you bought the album.

Until now on iTunes, you would buy a track and then pay again for the whole album but under a new scheme called Complete My Album you can buy tracks then only pay for rest of the sum when you buy the album.

So, for example, I have a yen for the new track by The Gazonglers called (So Ready) For The Rainy Day and therefore hand over my 79p for the aural pleasure. Then I think, hey, why not download the entire album Meet The Gazonglers. I pay for the album but minus the 79p I've already shelled out.

Good deal, and it also preserves the ancient form of the album that when available in vinyl or CD was intended by the artist to be a cohesive whole rather than random collection of tracks.

In fact, Apple could do our artistic heritage a favour and make some albums available on a collection-only basis so philistines don't break up the likes of Blood On the Tracks, Pet Sounds or Here, My Dear. ยต
