Nintendo takes free wi-fi route

NINTENDO has announced the launch this month of its UK Wi-Fi for the DS.

The wireless will be available from November 25th and has been made possible by Nintendo's deal with BT Openzone and The Cloud. The service will allow Nintendo owners to play some games over the web via wireless multiplayer.

Games will be sorted by friend list and skill settings only, so there won't be huge gaps between players and their opponents. That is, unless some of us have friends who vastly outplay us.

This follows the US deal to have free Wi-Fi to DS users in McDonald's burger bars and a Canadian deal to offer wireless access in bars, hotels and shopping centres.

As yet there has been no announcement concerning the rest of Europe but comments made by Nintendo of Europe's Jim Merrick make it look like we'll be seeing a big rollout across mainland Europe. µ
