Microsoft goes to war against GPL V3

Will not protect partners from itself

MICROSOFT'S promises not to sue over Linux technology does not apply to anything which comes out under the new GPL, v3.

Vole has specifically told its new chum Linux distributor Linspire that software that's licensed under GPL v3 isn't covered by the patent protection deal.

According to Information Week, Vole said its deal does not cover Foundry Products, Clone Products, or GPL v3 Software.

One of the reasons that Vole is treating GPL v3 like the ginger haired step child is that GPL v3 prohibits companies that distribute software covered by GPLv3 from suing open source users.

It seems that Microsoft has not given up on its idea that Linux and other free software programs violate 235 of its patents. Now it looks like it will threaten to sue its partners if they sign up for GPL v3
