INVESTMENT COMPANY PCC TECHNOLOGY has thrown cash-strapped UK system builder Evesham a credit line, enabling the Worcestershire-based company to continue trading while searching for a long-term solution to its funding crisis. most of Evesham's retail outlets are to close, however.
Evesham blames the axing of the Government's Home Computing Initiative for its cash shortfall.
"It is our intention to allow Evesham to continue with no involvement from PCC in the day-to-day operations", said Tahir Mohsan, Head of Dubai's PCC Technology. "We expect the brand to develop strongly and will be looking to divest in the medium term. Evesham is an excellent brand which has always offered a level of service which its customers have grown to love. By funding this restructuring, we intend to allow Evesham to continue delivering excellent products and services to its customers, so it's business as usual."
In a statement today, Evesham Technology said it intends to focus on Web and Channel Sales after undergoing a re-structure made necessary by the closure of the Government-backed Home Computing Initiative, in which the company 'had invested heavily'.
The company will now concentrate on direct sales of high-end PC systems and consumer electronics and develop its channel sales operations established with high street retailers. Nearly all of Evesham's own retail stores are to close.
"Evesham has been a strong performer in the direct sector with very strong mail order and Web sales operations. Our products have always been of very high quality, over the past 23 years Evesham has won hundreds of awards for its products in reviews and has always fared well in comparative tests," said Richard Austin, MD of Evesham Technology.
"We would like to reassure all of our customers that they will continue to receive support from the same Evesham staff and that their existing warranties will continue to be handled with Evesham's award winning service, as before."
In almost three decades of rather cynical technology reporting, this old hack has to put his hand on what passes for a heart [His wallet, Ed.] and say he wishes Evesham all the best as it, and its staff, have always been a pleasure to deal with. ยต
