HERE AT MWC, the Beast of Redmond has us collectively scratching our heads as to why it has decided to acquire mobile UI software house, Danger.
Danger is best known for creating the Sidekick for T-Mobile in the US, which is known elsewhere as the Hiptop.
It recently released the Slide which - like most other Danger devices - appears to be made by Motorola.
So Danger doesn´t really have a manufacturing side, so Microsoft has decided to acquire its assets for an undisclosed sum for its expertise in the mobile 'lifestyle'.
The INQ can't quite understand why the Beast would want to inherit yet another UI - even though it could possibly run over the top of Windows Mobile.
The only real indication that Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft´s entertainment and devices division, could give is that Danger appears to have some strengths in mobile social networking.
In other words, the Beast has noticed that its image as a mobile software vendor leant heavily towards business and it hopes that buying Danger will make it look more ´hip´.
Cue loads of Danger employees polishing up their CVs. µ

There is one simple reason for the acquisition bug that has hit Microsoft.

The US dollar is falling.

Why have huge cash reserves which are going down in value? It is better to buy tons of small profitable companies and hold them as assets then have depreciating reserves.

On top of that the weak economy has devalued these smaller companies making them a good buy.

I would expect MS to make tons of small, puzzling, acquisitions.
