Terry Shannon is dead

Terry was best known recently for his Shannon knows HPC newsletter. That newsletter started life as Shannon knows DEC and later, because Compaq took over DEC, that newsletter became Shannon knows Compaq.

His knowledge of the entire computing market was encyclopaedic and Terry possessed that rarest of all qualities in journalism, a deep perspective. He was also a very gentle and compassionate individual with a very great sense of humour, exemplified in his many Charlie Matco columns.

He will be sorely missed by his many, many friends inside and outside the industry. µ
