Hiper PSUs can charge your cellphone, PDA

New PSUs come with USB hub, and a special 1.0A port

HIPER IS AN interesting company. These lads make power supplies, coolers, keyboards and cases. Yet, every year at CeBIT they have more visitors than anybody else, even companies with 10x larger booths.

The reason for that is quite simple: its cooperation with Penthouse results in ton of girls, followed by most provocative posters for computer equipment.

A typical Hiper ad.

Besides the shameless marketing, the guys produce innovative products. We have been fiddling with an Anubis case, a media case and two power supplies. The Type-R power supply comes with a USB hub. We saw the USB hub on both power supplies, 680W and 880W Type-R Mark II.

Yes, you've read it correctly - a USB hub with no less than eight ports, and it all connects with a single nine-pin cable for the motherboard. The fact that USB ports are in PSU means that this is actively charged part, so no cautious measures are needed. Motherboard pins are just receiving and sending out data, no power is being exchanged so the motherboard will not be stressed by this large amount of ports.

Ninth USB port serves for another highly useful purpose

The ninth USB port is not your typical data port (don't connect your stick or something in it), but rather a port with 1.0A current.

You can charge PDAs, cellphones such as Motorola and Blackberries, but the best part is that one Amp (instead of USB 2.0 defined 0.5A) is enough for power charging, so you can forget about charging Blackberry on a PC for 2-3 hours. On this one, my Blackberry 8700g got charged in 56 minutes, just like on my quick charger.

Quite a different experience to 2.5 hours via regular USB cable. ยต
