Zotac boys capture key features of HD2900XT

CARSTEN BERGER AND HIS gang of engineers from Zotac have apparently managed to do something no other nV partner has done to date. The division of PC Partner Ltd. now sports a rather interesting feature, so far known only on Radeon HD 2900XT cards.

The lads did not have the fully functional high-end boards at Games Convention 2007, but after a week of hard work, engineers managed to change the complex reference 8800 PCB and squeeze in room for an S/PDIF connector and routing to a DVI port. This means that Zotac's 8800GTX AMP board now has support for DVI Audio.

And there is only one reason why you'd need DVI Audio. That reason is connecting that ugly yellow DVI-HDMI adapter, offering full HDMI connectivity from top to bottom (8800GTX to 8400GS).

Of course, you still need to have a sound card or integrated audio, and preferably high-definition. HDMI expects at least a 5.1 digital signal, but with the fact that almost all motherboards on the market ship with HD Audio capable chips, and that third party sound cards are cheap as chips, there is no reason why Zotac 8800GTX AMP should not offer full set of audio and graphics performance - connected to its natural surroundings, LCD or a plasma.

Retail packages already ship with that DVI-HDMI adapter in its nasty yellow colour, S/PDIF cable and the appropriate software. µ
