Lexmark plays "hunt the lowest cost country" game

Mexico too expensive, apparently
Tuesday, 23 October 2007, 17:23

PRINTER FIRM Lexmark will shut down some of its facilities in Mexico.

Over 1,650 people will lost their jobs in Mexico, while, according to the Wall Street Journal (sub required), Lexmark will find jobs for people in countries that cost less.

It didn't say which countries it was targeting - last year it enraged Jock McFrock, our bekilted engineer, by closing a printer cartridge factory in Bonnie Scotland.

Lexmark only made a Q3 profit of $45.2 million and that resulted in net profit falling by about a half.

Where will it all end? It will end in tears, that's where. ยต

Mexicans.

Maybe they can save money by just hiring Mexicans that are on their way through Kentucky to DC. They'd save on shipping.

Figures

Mabey they should just hire George Bush.
He's cheap. Just another example of corporate greed. And another example of people really being Sheeple.

Mexicans.

Well, of course they would. Cheap products require cheap, second-hand labour force... and that's not found in Mexico no more.

No Sir. You have to be a profitable company like Dell, HP or Intel to have facilities in Jalisco, where you requiere more people with a certain level of experience and knowledge before crappy inexperienced labour force that you can find anywhere in Central America.

Cheap companies with cheap products do this.

Ha!

Dont even get me started on the ridiculous amounts of Mexicans that Lexington has in it... They need to rename it Lexico or Mexington. Problem is even worse just south, in Nicholasville.

It would be nice for Lexmark to simply bring all manufacturing jobs back to Lexington, and then that way, our children can have their fast food jobs back.

Mexicans

Last time I checked Mexico is part of North America and I believe you can find crappy inexperienced labor forces everywhere around the world.

Meh.

Mexican citizen here seconds Aenslead's opinion. There are plenty of manufacturers of some of the BIGGEST players in the IT industry here.

Racist suckers: keep your comments for yourselves, remember that mexicans that go there get the worst jobs and get minimum wages.

They get the jobs the americans dont want because they think they deserve better or they're OK living from the welfare.

Did you know...
