First eight core, Quad SLI game demonstrated

Intel Skulltrail, four 8800 Ultras for a console conversion

IT IS QUITE FUNNY to see a console conversion becoming a hit for hardware vendors, but hey nobody can say that Capcom did not sign a golden goose as far as media coverage is concerned.

After Nvidia and all the controversy between DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 paths and image quality between the two, Lost Planet got a mention in one of the keynotes at last week's IDF Fall 007 gig in San Francisco.

Not that an eight core system based on two Yorkfields at 3.4 GHz has a lot to do with this game, since you can see that cores work at 20-30 per cent each

The game was demonstrated with the code using all eight cores and four Geforce 8800 Ultra graphics cards. Sadly for keynote presenters, game run with Vsync being turned on, so seeing 1280x1024 resolution in action without anti-aliasing and locked at 60.00 FPS was far from being impressive.

But all eight cores were caught in use, and yes - Skulltrail is codename mainstream and IT press will mention until you get bored with it and more. However, launch is way off, so prepare for a streamlined series of carefully planned news releases that go hand in hand with this interesting concept. µ
