Virtual net processing creates one huge core

Brain the size of a planet. A big planet
Monday, 5 February 2007, 08:26
BOFFINS AT the University of Venice have released a virtual network processor dubbed WALLS (Wide Area Logical Laboratory System).

The distributed computing notion extends ideas used in the SETI project. Each node on the net emulates a single core, and, according to an INQ reader knowledgeable about this stuff, each machine is a core n one giant single processor.

The concept is staggering in its ambition and the team realise this, dubbing the release version Zero and looking for community support.

The initial release of the software is on Sourceforge under the file name WALLS-one-core-net-0.tar.gz. ยต
