Microsoft talking IE7 cobblers, says Secunia

Bluff and bluster

MICROSOFT CLAIMS the vulnerability found to already inflict Internet Explorer 7, is no IE vulnerability at all. Technically speaking, says the Vole, the problem is with a different Microsoft product, a component in Outlook Express.

However, a friend from Secunia told the INQ that just because a vulnerability comes from an underlying component, this does not relieve Internet Explorer from responsibility, seeing as it provides a direct vector to the vulnerable component. Blimey.

Secunia is certain that, at the moment, Internet Explorer 7 definitely is vulnerable and should be treated as such. Keep in mind, this dodgy component is included in a clean install of Windows.

It's reckoned by some that Microsoft is hiding behind an explanation as a PR tactic, instead of facing facts and coming clean with users, and warning them appropriately.

Not that we at the INQ are biased, but perhaps if tabbed browsing is the only thing that catches your fancy, you may want to look elsewhere, for now... µ

Do you think the move was justified?
