Intel confirms 1333MHz bus for Woodcrest

Server Roadmaps
Monday, 9 January 2006, 22:10
CHIP GIANT Intel has told its OEM partners that it will launch the Woodcrest server processor with a 1333MHz front side bus in the third quarter of this year. However, there are indications Intel will try and pull this launch into the second quarter.

Intel will also release a low voltage version of Woodcrest in Q4, along with the 5000P chipset.

According to recent roadmaps seen by the INQ, other flags Intel has alerted its customers too include a change in the launch of Bensley/Glidewell to the second quarter. It will also introduce a 3.73GHz Dempsey chip in the second quarter, while during this quarter it will introduce a Presler 960 SKU to its uniprocessor line up. Intel now says it will introduce the Itanium Madison 533MHz processors during this quarter. The Dempsey will cost $830 at launch, and that will mean a price cascade of sorts when it's launched.

The Madison 533s will have 9MB and 6MB of L3 cache respectively, will clock at 1.6GHz, and will cost $4,200 and $1,980 respectively.

It has told its partners that the Bensley-Glidewell parts, which include Dempsey, Greencreek, Blackford-VS, ESB2, Gilgal and Gold Bridge will be in production during this quarter. It expects to tie down a firm date for launch of Bensley-Glidewell this month.

Its Montecito 9000 family is now slated for the middle of the second quarter of this year. It hasn't decided what clock speeds and caches it will deliver with Montecito.

Its Tulsa processor, which will have 16MB of L3 cache and a 667/800 system bus is now slated for the fourth quarter of this year.

Other server components which look certain to arrive in Q2 2006 include the Whitmore Lake iMCH chipset, a ULV version of its dual core Xeon, and a dual core LV version of Mr Yonah.
