HP sues Acer over patents

Texan showdown
Wed Mar 28 2007, 10:43
HP HAS has accused Acer of infringing on five of its patents.

In a legal complaint filed on Tuesday, HP demanded unspecified damages as well as a permanent injunction that prevents Acer from further infringing on the patents. The case was filed in the Eastern District of Texas.

The patents HP claims Acer infringed cover technologies ranging from notebook processor throtting to bits and bobs in optical drives. The company says Acer's infringement was "willful", claiming the Taiwanese company continued to sell its computers even though it was aware it may be infringing HP's patent.

Acer, which has been agressively taking market share from the big US box shifters is yet to respond to the claims. µ
