Coppers arrest teen over Myspace prank

No sense of humour
Wednesday, 10 September 2008, 10:26

COPPERS FEARING another Columbine-style attack by gun-toting teens swooped on the house of a 17-year-old who made a few ill-advised comments on Myspace.

Inspector Knacker of the Fort Smith Yard obtained the 17-year-old's name after getting a search warrant for the account on the social notworking site and then piled around to his place.

After talking to the boy's parents and the teen himself they realised it was all a 'joke' and, after looking up the word on Wackypedia, went home.

Now it appears that the hapless teen has been charged with posting threats on a Myspace page even though man plus dog knows he wasn't planning an attack.

The joke about violence mentioned an unnamed school but it wasn't clear if the boy was a student there. µ

Reneg

Those threatening e-mails I sent you earlier, I really was joking. I also apologize, I should never have made those comments about your mother.

Stand

Jot me down as having the exact opposite view as 'psychochief' who seems more suited to be called 'conformochief' in this instance.

"wasting police time"

"Hey Chief, I just got a great idea !"
"Yeah, what ?"
"Since we don't actually have any terrists to catch, let's just go to random houses and search for random threats."
"But we won't be able to charge anyone for anything that way !"
"Yes we can, we can charge them for wasting our time !"
"Brilliant ! Okay men, let's GO !"

more like a waste of money

and once again the police proves that they no longer do any investigations and rely on everything given to them on a silver platter. They could have just as easily called his mother and then sent a social worker to investigate. Instead they waste the tax payers money on a warrant, then on a raid!

Noone nose nuffink

The oh-so-dismissive author of this piece doesn't know what this boy said on MySpace (and nor do the people who have commented here), so how can anyone reach any judgement about whether the cops overreacted?

I am pleased that the police err on the side of caution 'cos massacres should - where possible - be avoided.

Also, does anyone else find baffling missingextension's idiotic staccato reactionary rant?

The 'police no longer do any investigations'?
Yes they do - that's what this story is about!

'Given to them on a silver platter'? You mean someone reported it to them? Surely not!

'They could have just as easily called his mother and then sent a social worker to investigate.'
If they have suspicions that someone is going to commit serious violence then it's probably worth a home visit (and not just a call to his mum.

'Instead they waste the tax payers money on a warrant, then on a raid!'
Are warrants expensive? Are social workers cheap?

Fort Smith police were contacted in August about comments on a certain MySpace page. Investigators took a look at the site and found a threat of violence toward an unnamed school. Fort Smith police Sgt. Adam Holland said the teen already was on probation on an unrelated charge, so prosecutors plan to bring a probation-violation charge against him."

what a weird sense of humour you head in the sand do gooders have, i expect you encourage your own spawned yoofs to participate in such fun activities, no wait, perhaps like most parents, you havent a clue/care what your little darlins get up to on the internet in their self comtained luxury penthouse bedrooms. :O)

with all due respect folks, may i suggest, it is you peeps that have lost touch with reality and are allowing/encourageing society to continue on its downward spiral into hades, its a short boat ride across acheron, im sure your ferryman cheron will entertain you all on that very short journey, dont forget to put an obolus under your tongues, otherwise cheron will not take you O_o

if some of you folks didnt understand that, just ask a grown up, im sure they'll be glad to explain :O)
