Because they were so popular on the Internet

CABLE AND satellite tellie companies are planning to introduce Pop-up ads in a bid to boost flagging sales from advertising.

According to marketing departments, companies in Tampa Bay area have begun experimenting with onscreen features and advertising that are more interactive and "helpful". However the actual thing being tested is the infamous onscreen pop-up.

There are two standard technologies. The first requires you to hit your remote if you would like to see a local dealer of the product which is blocking your view of your favourite program. The other sticks a box in the corner until you click a button on your remote.

The companies using the ads include Land Rover, Capital One, Dodge, and HBO. So far no one knows how effective the ads are, or how many customers the cable companies will lose by installing them. Already several companies have rejected the technology saying that customers 'hated' it.
