Ever more Windows vulnerabilities will be found

Vista won't be immune, says McAfee. With glee

ACCORDING TO insecurity firm McAfee, Microsoft patched 133 "critical" or " important" vulnerabilities in 2006 - more than doubling the number from 2005.

And it will get worse. A spokesMcAfee told VNUNet. "You will definitely continue to see a rise in the number of vulnerabilities. There are theoretically tens of thousands of vulnerabilities waiting to be discovered."

It's all grist to McAfee's mill, as the more folk are worried about holes in their Windows, the more McAfee (in)security products they'll buy.

"Microsoft does a good job of patching things as soon as they can. And at the end of the day that's really all you can ask for," Dave Marcus, McAfee's Graham Cluley, said. Earnestly.

He admitted Vista will have a "positive impact" on the situation. "But at the end of the day the vulnerability comes down to the code, and hackers will continue to find vulnerabilities in the code," he said. Hopefully. µ
