Sony jumps the gun on Emmy

Probably wishes it hadn't
Thursday, 11 January 2007, 08:59
THE SONY press office is so desperate for good news lately that when the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences decided to give it an engineering award for its console controller it rushed out a press release.

The spinners at the maker of exploding batteries assumed that the award would be for its Sixaxis controller which is part of its super soaraway PS3 machine.

Most gamers in Internet land thought that this award was a bit surprising given that the Sixaxis is a nasty cheap looking thing with a name that only a Nintendo marketer could think was a good idea.

Cynical hacks from www.engadget.com decided to ring up the awards presenters and check to see if the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences really meant to give Sony this particular award.

It turns out that Sony didn't get the award for the Sizaxis but for the development of the Dual Shock. Dual Shock is the one thing that is missing from the Sixaxis and is not seen on the PS3 at all. µ
