New Nvidia beta driver tips up

81.85 improves SLI capabilities
Thu Oct 20 2005, 01:17
IT'S ALREADY been available for more than a day but for those of you who haven't noticed it, Nvidia has a new beta driver.

It's still not WHQL but Nvidia hopes it will get there soon. Nvidia always likes to leak the drivers and now it can do so through its own nzone.com web site.

The driver is a 20MB file that will bring some extra functionality to your SLI system. It sounds like a small upgrade from the already-available 81.84 and it sure does fix some bugs, that's how it goes.

This driver will help you to mix vendors' cards and make a Gainward 7800 GTX work with an Asus 7800 GTX and same goes for the 6600 and other cards. It's the rule to apply to them all.

It will run faster on dual core CPU's if you have one and overall it's a better choice than 81.84. We expect to see WHQL shortly but there's still no word about it from Nvidia.

Oh yes, you can download it here. µ
