Merger woe: Friendly hello turns into bitter aloe

Twinhead and Uniwill in failed-union fight
Mon Dec 24 2001, 12:01
JUST LOOK WHAT CAN HAPPEN when love turns sour and merger mania goes all bitter and twisted.

A report on Digitimes said today that notebook company Twinhead wants a court order to recover assets from Uniwill - another notebook firm - after love died earlier this year.

According to the wire, Twinhead lent NT$800 worth of kit to Uniwill, but according to the terms of the merger, hasn't yet complied with the agreement.

Uniwill is feeling equally spurned - and claims it handed over a chunk of orders for notebooks to Twinhead on the grounds the deal would go through.

Taiwanese companies don't really go in for mergers and acquisitions. When things in the marketplace change, rather than consolidate, they tend to go in for exploring new market areas.

But perhaps this may be a lesson for both Compaq and HP about how quickly things can turn from friendly hellos, roses and chocolates to bitter aloes.

It doesn't take long for ripped up suits flying out of the window as love dies to lawsuits winging their way from ambulance chasers.
