UNLOCKED 3G IPHONES are now on sale in Hong Kong direct from the fruit-themed toymaker’s website.
Lucky Hong Kong residents are amongst the first worldwide to be offered legal, Apple-sanctioned, unlocked Iphones compatible with any mobile operator. Saves them the trouble of having to crack them themselves.
Until now, Hong Kong Iphones could only be bought from Hutchison Telecommunications on a two-year contract, the cheapest package being a staggering $188 (£102) a month.
Now Apple’s local website is offering the 8 gigabyte version of its unlocked Iphone for $695 (£377) and the 16 gigabyte one for $798 (£433) letting buyers choose their own GSM service provider. To entice buyers further, Apple says it will even deliver the phone free to any punters living inside Hong Kong.
Why Apple has suddenly decided to sell its Iphone unlocked in Hong Kong is still something of a mystery and it remains unclear whether or not the firm intends to follow this route elsewhere. µ

$188 HKD is just $13.42 British pounds according to Google, and the phone is unlocked to boot. It's actually quite a good deal.
3's Iphone \ packages in HK start at HK$188, not US$188. HK$7.8 == US$1
