Skype 1.4 for Linux released
INTERNET PHONE and chat application Skype has a new release 1.4 for Linux that's just out of beta status after five months of testing, its website shows.
Packages are available for eight major Linux distributions, including Debian Etch, Fedora Core 6 and 7, Mandriva, Mepis, OpenSUSE 10+, Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 and Xandros, as well as a generic Linux version.
Hardware requirements are a 400Mhz or faster processor, 256MB RAM, 20MB free disk space, microphone and speakers or headset, and an Internet connection, broadband recommended.
Software requirements include Qt 4.2.1+, DBus 1.0.0, libsigc++ 2.0.2, and libasound2 1.0.12 and should be available in any reasonably current Linux distribution.
Skype is fully operating system agnostic with compatible versions for Windows, Mac and Linux. ยต

and yet no video support for linux (which was canned). Been using http://www.openwengo.org/ and never looked back :)
and still can't send sms messages!
And no 64-bit support, either. Just 32-bit x86. OpenWengo is the way to go.
Yes, they are platform agnostic, but the non-windows versions lag a lot in features. The Mac version is getting better, but the Linux version is pretty stale.
