Blog gets censored in Greece

Toys thrown out of cradle of democracy
Monday, 30 October 2006, 10:29
A BIT embarrassingly for the Greek prime minister, speaking at the Internet Governance Forum today, a row has broken out over blog censorship in the country.

Greece, the "cradle of democracy" has apparently ordered an adminstrator of www.blogme.gr to suspend a website, and is being arraigned in court.

According to Dimitris.gr, www.blogme.gr has RSS feeds which could be viewed by anyone.

And apparently someone has taken exception to one of the bogs and has initiated proceedings which has caused the site to be suspended. Ooh er. ยต

*DIMITRIS.GR said its perception is that the person prosecuting blogme.gr may be right from a legal perspective, but "in the wider context of how the internet and blogging works, this doesn't make much sense." The site said: "The bigger issue here is the potential start of censorship over blogging and the internet, and the need for tailored laws regulating the internet, instead of copy pasting the legal framework for publications."

That blog suggests a trip to Magicasland
