AMD's Heye says Hammer has problems

A REPORT ON Digitimes quotes INQ t-shirt wearer Richard Heye as saying yes, the processor will hit the streets in Q1 of next year.

That's because it still appears to be tweaking the verification of silicon on insulator (SOI) and making changes to the K8 designs, the wire said.

But he also appears to hedge his bets in the piece, adding that volume shipments won't happen until Q2 of next year.

Heye said that Barton, which as we said the other day will use SOI (silicon on insulator) technology, is also expected in Q1 next year.

By the end of this year, he said, AMD will have it build its 130 nanometer Athlon XP products, the paper reports.

Desktop units using the Hammer processor are likely to cost just under $1000 by the end of next year, he claimed.
