MURDOCH MEDIA FIRM, SKY has shelved plans for its Picnic pay-TV Freeview channel blaming delays in the Ofcom review process.
Picnic was due to bring three of Sky's most popular channels, namely Sky Sports 1, Sky Movies and Sky One to terrestrial television viewers on a subscription basis early next year. But the outfit says the UK broadcast watchdog Ofcom has been dragging its heels on the approval of the move.
The government body doesn't seem to have anything against Sky in particular, but rather the delays are because it is currently investigating the whole pay-TV market and will only be reaching a decision next year some time.
"We continue to believe strongly in Picnic. It will be good for consumers and a good opportunity for Sky," said a spokesSky in a statement.
"While our launch plans are already well advanced, there is no definitive conclusion in sight to the Ofcom process. Consequently, we intend to wind down preparations by redeploying as many of the team as possible to other parts of Sky."
It looks like the plans have not been scrapped for good, just postponed while Ofcom concludes its review of pay-TV services.
"We will decide whether to reactivate the project when we have more certainty over the Picnic TV proposal. This is not as a result of any change of view as to the attractiveness of the opportunity."
We guess Ofcom is just dragging its feet over how to rename Freeview as Payview just to accommodate rampant Rupe. ยต
Murdoch should just BUY england. He has enough wonga, and I'm sure the queen would give him a good deal. After all, it's only a pissin' little island, heck, not even a whole island, as the Scots have their own little part up north. Free Scotland and Wales!
Self-determination! Down with imperialistic empires! Oh, wait, I'm an American, so never mind the last. (grins)

Oh, hell, what the heck.... Free Vermont (I'm from NY, and believe me nothing would please us more than building a wall between NY and vermont. Buncha wacko perverts.)

Did you know that until recently, Texas had the legal right to secede from the US? It was an independent republic and one of the terms under which they joined the US was to retain the right of secession. Unfortunately, the Texas legislature voted to drop that right. Damn idiots.
Texas also had the right to split into up to five states.
yeah because England is worth as much as his fortune!

We should revoke your independance as you would a provisional license, you've shown the world you can't drive it properly, your points are up.

Mr Bean could do a better job, I really hope Obama gets in and has a good PR for foreign relations becausethe world hates America (not personally, I like people for who they are).
Sky have a monopoly anyway, the last thing we want or need is them invading the Freeview space.

Good riddance!
Not worth even half of its fortune and that only after overcharging in the usual british fashion!

Your masters did not grant us independance rather we beat the crap out of their so called soldiers (cutthroaths and murderers)and earned our freedom from your effete inbred aristocracy.

Like we really cared about what a bunch of rotten-teeth limmeys and their eurotrash cousins think of our country! After all judging by how many of you are always trying to emigrate to this country it seems is mostly envy and not the hate you so loudly proclaim!
