Gecube Gemini 3 is out

Twice the 2600s for your pleasure

DURING COMPUTEX, we told you about a bunch of dual ATI 2600 cards, by far the most polished of which was the Gecube variant.

Now word has reached us that it is out as a buyable product called the GeCube Gemini 3, Gemini being the ATI code name for the board.

There are some really nice things about this board, the first being the price, $259 for the 512MB and $279 for the 1GB version, both are PCIe 16x cards. We would not be surprised to see an AGP variant like they were showing off at Computex tip up, it was already working there, so it isn't a huge technical challenge. In any case, this card nicely fills the $2-300 void in the market.

Next up is the theoretical Quad Crossfire. This won't happen until Vista SP1 due to MS's hard 3 frame render ahead lock, but ATI might be able to work some magic and get it out sooner. Either way. This card has 4 DVI outs per board, so if you have two 16x slots, you can have 8 dual link DVI ports, 12 with a 3 slot system. Before you get all drooly, 4 slot systems are close, really really close.

The Gemini 3 looks to be a very interesting board. It will be going head to head against the upcoming 2900 Pro, it remains to be seen which one ends up on top. If you are into a lot of monitors though, the choice is very clear. µ
