Fix for Itanium 2 bug still not out

Updated Underclock, test, replace
Tue Jun 03 2003, 16:37
THERE'S ONLY a few weeks left until the Intel Itanium Madison is released, so it seems that the solution to the bug in the "McKinley" Itanium 2 will be to wait for the new chip to arrive.

According to a recent article on ZD Net, although software has been sent to the manufacturers for testing, this is a cut down version of Intel's own manufacturing test and isn't as reliable as the test it performs in its factories.

The short term answer to the problem is to underclock the Itanium 2 to 800MHz from 900MHz in order to be really sure that your data is safe.

The bug hasn't yet been placed on Intel's general erratum page. Instead it has its own special page, here and another one, here, which don't, however, tell us much more than we already knew. µ
