SMIC countersues TSMC

THE CHINESE chipmaker SMIC has countersued its Taiwanese rival Taiwan Semiconductor TSMC for breach of contract in the latest legal hissy fit between the pair.

SMIC says that it wants unspecified damages from Taiwan Semiconductor. Taiwan Semiconductor was recently in a Californian court claiming SMIC broke a 2005 settlement of a dispute over patents.

It also claims the Chinese outfit shanghaied its trade secrets.

SMIC says that TSMC was not interesting in competing in the marketplace and had done its best to discredit SMIC by making unfair and misleading accusations.
