Open Source JMX Remoting Becomes a Reality

MX4J 2.0 Goes Beta
Wed Nov 26 2003, 17:46
MX4J is an Open Source implementation of the Java Management Extensions specification, which (for the uninitiated) is an abstraction on Java introspection that's useful for developing management tools and (for the middleware and application developer) a great way to break your architecture down into modules across classloaders in a JVM.

JMX is the technology behind the modular architectures of Apache Geronimo and JBoss. MX4J founder, Simone Bordet once belonged to the JBoss project and is now an Apache Geronimo committer.

I won't go too far into technical details, but the JMX Remoting specification (JSR 160) has been successfully implemented by the MX4J team. JMX Remoting will extend the benefits of JMX over the network, clearing the way for a new generation of clustered Open Source application servers, web service frameworks and the like.

If none of that excites you, I built them a snazzy new website. It's worth a look. ยต
