NETSCAPE HAS started work on its latest cross platform browser with the original title 'Netscape 9'.

Like Netscape Browser 8, this release will be based on Mozilla Firefox. According to the Netscape Bog, Number 9 will be a standalone browser which will lack a mail client or Web page editor. It will have a tighter integration with the Netscape.com portal.

Netscape 9 will be released simultaneously for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Netscape Browser 8 is only available for Windows.

Apparently, the outfit is actually hiring more developers these days, something that has not been seen since the glory days when it was the name of the world's leading browser. µ
